Firing Up Getting Ready To Go/Practicing for Grouse Season
"Libby"
"Hilda" On The Prance
Photos of Zeb learning some pointers from Bob Snyder, a longtime, Bird Hunter, Woodcock Bander, Setter Owner and Breeder. Using a Grouse Wing and a Fishing Pole, as a training tool, for Zeb and a short duration, (2-5 minutes to keep his interest), offers a challenge to the young pup. The wing excited even the older setters. Another month to Grouse Season and Zeb will go on a big adventure--he is 4 months old and will participate, though never to be hunted hard at this very young age. Practice and encouragement are the foundation for a long career of Woodcock Banding and he is fortunate that he will go with "Grandpa" and his setters. A fun time for both dogs and humans.

What's That Dad?
All the Boys love to go to State Land to do some field work. The pup is learning to return using a whistle and to hand signals. It's alot easier to teach the pup when his Sire responds quickly to the hand signals and to the whistle already. Still it is not all work, Zeb is only 4 months old and running, playing, pointing butterflies is an excellent way to learn control of his body. This 4-5 month period in his life and the gangily teenage physique is such fun to watch and be apart of.

Zeb and Zak are getting their work outs preparing for the strenuous hunting days ahead. The "Baby" just turned 5 months and is still playing and pointing butterflies. Zeb is so very excited to be afield. He watches his Dad closely and you can see his brain working to understand, he has started to quarter naturally and checks back with eye contact responding to hand signals and the whistle. The last 2 runs he is starting to range out on his own more often but a "find Daddy" gets him right back to Zak. Waiting for the "Magic" as the instinct and the brain comes online. He had a great time opening day of Grouse Season--photos in Hunting Gallery XI.
